Fibre-reinforced plastic rebar is a rather new work material that has entered the market quite recently; therefore, builders still have not duly appreciated the benefit the usage of such material could provide. This benefit lies in the fact that initial price of fibre-reinforced plastic rebar is lower as compared with the metal one, that its delivery and assembly is less complicated, and that the project can be reassessed to the better performance. To give you an example we will calculate and compare the expenses associated with purchasing 1 ton of metal rebar with diameter 12 mm with the expenses that arise if we replace it with an equally efficient fibre-reinforced plastic rebar with diameter 8 mm.

Price of rebar

Let’s consider that conditional price of 1 ton of 12mm metal rebar is 27 thousand roubles, which gives us 1125 lineal meters of rebar. If we replace it with fibre-reinforced plastic rebar, we will need only 90 kilograms of composite construction material with diameter 8 mm in coils, 100 meters of rebar in each coil that weighs only 8 kilograms. In the latter case you will spend 18470 roubles. Your interest will amount to 31,5%! However this is not the only way you can reduce your expenses if you decide to use fibre-reinforced plastic rebar.

Shipping costs

To deliver 1–1.5 tons of metal rebar, you need a GAZelle vehicle. Fibre-reinforced plastic rebar of the same length can be transported by any motor car in one piece up to 100 m long! If you buy more than 2 tons of metal rebar, you will definitely need a truck.

Ordering KAMAZ for transportation, you will spend at least 7-10 thousand roubles in contrast to the equivalent of fibre-reinforced plastic rebar delivered by a motor car (up to 1.5 km of 12 mm A-III equivalent) or by GAZelle (up to 20 km of 12 mm A-III equivalent)! As for unloading, it should be noted that some objects cannot be reached by a truck, some objects have no electric current to cut iron rods of rebar with an angle grinder.
